Trip Log

Finally feeling ready to go on Day 3, fairly well-rested and up bright and early. Gorgeous morning as we depart into the sunrise to row our first full day. Finally got away from roads and people! And my family! Haha. The water is looking cleaner already, and the landscape slowly changing.

We put our trust in Mr. Cowie’s memory, traveling down the channels that lead to the waters of Lake Winnipeg. Had lunch at a nice site with easy chairs on the dock, and an old boat up on shore.

We arrived late in the day, surrounded by storm clouds and rough water. Just as we arrived, a HUGE storm came bearing down on us, relentlessly. All we could do is wait it out. Then another passed over while we set-up camp on a sandy point, facing North onto that massive and intimidating lake.

I truly believe the storms were our welcome from the Great Spirits of the Lake. Showing us her power, and cautioning us to respect her. Then, just as quickly as the storm had hit us, she decided to reveal her beauty, too. The clouds literally opened up, the sun came out, and we got treated to the most amazing sunset! Ey, what a site…

Dinner was awesome, too – three-course meal, soup, pemmican supreme, and ‘those little donuts’. Life is grand, and we are very privileged to be here. I feel I am in good company, and at this moment, wouldn’t want to be anyplace else, doing anything else, with anybody else…

Beautiful full moon tonight. It looked stunning over our teepee…
