Cancun for couples: Where life’s a 27-kilometer beach

Tucked away in the middle of the popular hotel zone, Golden Parnassus may seem small by sprawling-resort standards. While it doesn’t compete in size and swank to its neighbours, there’s one thing it does better than most other resorts on the strip: Cancun for couples.

Whether you live childfree regularly, or choosing to take a holiday without your mini-me’s tagging along, Golden Parnassus is the perfect place for relaxation and rejuvenation. It’s an all-inclusive resort billed as being exclusively for adults, and delivers on that promise.

Advantages of kid-free

There are many benefits to visiting an adults-only resort. The first and most obvious is the fact there are no kids around. Not in the hallways, not in the restaurants, not on the beach, and especially not in the pool.

Since the sound of children is noticeably wonderfully absent, this allows for much peace and quiet. Plus, you don’t have to worry about accidentally saying something inappropriate for small ears. And waiting in lines behind gaggles of restless families? Never.

Adults-only resorts go out of their way to cater to a mature clientele. Guest rooms are more spacious and decorative, with added amenities like coffee makers, stocked mini-bar, and 24-hour room service.

For our Cancun for couples experience, we arrived to chilled champagne, chocolates and fruit, and complimentary robes and slippers. Our top floor room had a stunning panoramic balcony view of the turquoise Caribbean Sea – like a picture right out of a travel magazine. We could gaze at the ocean from double Jacuzzi tub behind floor-to-ceiling glass doors. And listen to the sounds of waves lapping infinitely at the shore.

One of my favourite things about Cancun is that there are accommodations for all styles and lengths of stay – from all-inclusive resorts for a week or two, to long-term and short-term private rentals. You can search and book all kinds of stays through Booking.com.

Little things add so much

It’s the little things that make a difference, at a place like Golden Parnassus. Special touches like lavish linens, fine dishes, and lit candles on the dining table turn meals into moments. With four a la cart restaurants that didn’t require reservations, dinners are easy and enjoyable.

Activities at an adults-only resort are more varied, too. We started each morning with yoga beside the beach. We could ride bikes, play tennis, or visit the fitness centre. At night, there were billiards, karaoke, casino games, and theatre shows. And of course, there’s always the beach.

Beaches for miles

Be prepared to fall in love with the sparkling white sands of Cancun. There’s nothing like soaking up the sun from your lounge chair, good book in hand, cool breeze in your hair, and cold beverage nearby. You might be surprised at how guiltlessly tranquil it is. Especially without kids around.

For this meandering beachcomber, the best thing about visiting Cancun has to be the 27-kilometer-long hotel zone. While the sandy area adjacent to each resort is private property, the entire shoreline is public, from end-to-end. This means you can stroll along the ocean for hours, barefoot in the warm sand, and beverage of choice in-hand.

It’s the ideal locale to search for rocks, seashells, beachglass, and other tiny treasures. All while soaking in a healthy daily dose of Vitamin D to nourish you from head-to-toe. Your body, mind and spirit will thank you.

Especially without kids around.
